Job Summary
This position is a direct report to the Real Time Operations IT Manager. A Solution Architect is responsible for the design of network solutions in support of business functions by evaluating end user needs, business goals, budgets, and existing applications to define system requirements and technical standards. This position continually strives to improve our existing processes and results through automation and innovative strategies.
Job Responsibilities
Align and support with strategic direction of broader IT organization and the Utility Operational Technology Product Portfolio.
Provide insight to the strategic vision / plans / roadmap and identify key innovative technologies and product enhancements that improves customer experience and simplify current landscape.
Provide leadership, oversight and guidance on application design and development, serving as an expert on technical capabilities.
Provide vision; define system and application architecture, problem anticipation and problem-solving ability across the landscape.
Responsible for developing solution architecture framework to support product solutions for core business functions, ensuring alignment with other products as well as the overall IT enterprise.
Design, document and maintain system processes, report on common sources of technical issues or questions and make recommendations to product team.
Establish a deep understanding of our customers' business practices and technical needs and communicating key insights and findings to product team.
Responsible for establishing strong partnerships with vendors with clear expectations; This includes negotiating agreements, establishing service level agreements, and ensuring contracts are in place to support the product needs.
Facilitate and coordinate external benchmarking / best practice efforts and relationships with other business organizations.
Maintain documentation, develop and comply with standards of OT Systems.
Application of concepts, best practices, and functions to architect, design and implement complex and secure network designs.
Advances network automation capabilities through Identification, architecture, design, configuration, building, documentation, and maintenance of solutions to meet business or technology requirements.
Provides training on such tools and solutions to team members.
Serves as technical mentor to team members and non-technical super users.
Evaluates existing network technology solutions to determine fit for the new requirements.
Researches and recommends innovative solutions, alternatives in collaboration with other stakeholders to ensure proper integration of the new technology solution(s) with the existing solution(s) and processes.
Creates network solutions based on a disciplined process, including meeting all change management, security requirements, quality standards, product, and service operating requirements.
Performs related duties as assigned or requested.
We are looking for an individual with extensive hands-on experience with architecting, configuring, automating, and supporting complete network systems.
Job Specific Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, at least 8 years of experience in IT networking, with at least three years' experience in doing some of the following developing, implementing, operating & managing multiple network projects and or large-scale IT systems. Without a degree, at least 10 years of IT networking experience or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
Demonstrated scripting skills in Python, Ansible or other scripting language to automate improvements in the network infrastructure.
Experience in a team lead role through projects and product enhancements.
Proactively identify key features, capabilities and areas of improvements needed within the products.
Proven experience with supporting large sized complex projects addressing issues & concerns to ensure project meet IT & business goals.
Strong experience with aligning project solutions to overall OT architecture.
4+ years proven experience supporting and coaching other solution architects / team members
Work and communicate with a wide range of people - peers, vendors, staff members, broader functional and business leadership, and others. Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude, demeanor and discretion.
Ability to proactively communicate technical topics in a clear, succinct, and relevant way.
Demonstrated ability to perform assigned work proficiently.
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with external constituent groups and customers.
Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required

Automation Experience.
Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining various WAN and LAN technologies and tools such as Cisco switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, access points, F5 load balancers, Cisco's Identity Services Engine (ISE), Cisco's Network Access Control (NAC), Security Manager, and other network technologies that may emerge over time.
Knowledge of system monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, ServiceNow, Firepower Monitoring Center (FMC), etc.) and commands to ensure quick and efficient resolution of issues.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and multi-task effectively with strong analytical ability, problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication and facilitation skills; demonstrated ability to develop business cases and sell network investment concepts and foster working relationships with key stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience defining metrics that measure success of the technology solution in addressing business and technical requirements as well as achieving the desired outcomes.
Current Cisco certification.
Exposure to Cybersecurity concepts and best practices.
