As a Building Materials Estimator, you will play a crucial role in the construction process by accurately estimating the quantity and cost of materials required for various building projects.
Your meticulous calculations and attention to detail will ensure that projects are completed within budgetary constraints and timelines.
Responsibilities :
Material Quantity Estimation : Utilize architectural plans, drawings, and specifications to determine the quantity of materials needed for construction projects, including but not limited to, concrete, steel, wood, drywall, roofing materials, and finishing materials.
Cost Estimation : Calculate the cost of materials based on current market prices, supplier quotations, and project requirements.
Provide accurate cost estimates to aid in budget planning and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
Vendor Management : Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to obtain competitive pricing and ensure timely delivery of materials.
Collaborate with procurement teams to negotiate favorable terms and conditions.
Documentation : Must be able to read blueprints and other design documents. Prepare detailed material take-offs, spreadsheets, and reports outlining the quantities and costs of materials required for each phase of the construction project.
Maintain accurate records of all estimates and revisions.
Quality Assurance : Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure that material specifications meet project requirements and comply with building codes and regulations.
Continuous Improvement : Stay abreast of industry trends, new construction materials, and cost-saving opportunities. Identify areas for process improvement and develop strategies to enhance efficiency and accuracy in material estimation practices.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a building materials estimator or similar role in the construction industry.
- Strong mathematical aptitude and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and construction estimating software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and construction practices.
