Job description

Insurance Claims Specialist

Provides extraordinary care to our customers through friendly, courteous, and professional service through a broad understanding of account handling processes, extraordinary interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve complex issues in a timely and accurate manner.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely submission of claims follow up, reconsideration and appeals, response to denials, and re-bills of insurance claims, and all aspects of insurance follow-up and collections.
  • Submit requested medical information to insurance carrier. Responsible for the analysis and necessary corrections of invoices or accounts and maintaining work queues.
  • Research and resolve a variety of issues relating to posting of payments and charges, insurance denials, secondary billing issues, credit balances, sequencing of charges, and non-payment of claims.
  • Reconcile accounts, research and resolve various issues relating to posting payments and charges, insurance denials, secondary billing issues, sequencing charges, and non-payment of claims.
  • Identify issues and / or trends and provide suggestions for resolution to management, including payer, system or escalated account issues.
  • Maintain basic understanding and knowledge of health insurance plans, policies and procedures.
  • Accurately and thoroughly document the pertinent collection activity performed while meeting / exceeding productivity and quality standards.
  • Participate and attend meetings, training seminars and in-services to develop job knowledge.

  • High school diploma Preferred
  • Two (2)+ years of experience in hospital or physician insurance related activities (Billing & Follow-Up)
  • Knowledge of revenue and ICD 10 coding practices
  • Physical Requirements

    Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

    Interact with others by effectively communicating, both orally and in writing. Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. See and read computer monitors and documents. Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment. May require lifting and transporting objects and office supplies, bending, kneeling and reaching.

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
