Job description

Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician works closely with ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide high-quality patient care by performing diagnostic testing, preparing patients for exams, assisting with procedures, and ensuring accurate documentation. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a patient-centered approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, take medical / ocular histories, and record current medications and allergies.
  • Measure and record visual acuity, intraocular pressure, pupil reactions, and other preliminary tests.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as :
  • Visual fields
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT)
  • Fundus photography
  • Topography and IOLs
  • Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and minor in-office procedures.
  • Administer eye drops and topical medications as directed.
  • Educate patients on procedures, treatments, and post-visit instructions.
  • Maintain, clean, and calibrate ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Support clinic flow by preparing rooms, managing supplies, and coordinating patient care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in health sciences preferred.
  • Previous experience in ophthalmology or optometry setting is highly desirable.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or higher credential preferred, but not always required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and diagnostic equipment.

    Pay : $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
