Job Summary Description :
The Director of EH&S will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and work closely with operational teams, including Regional Vice Presidents and Area Directors to develop and implement strategies to ensure workplace safety, minimize risks, and promote a proactive culture within PURIS. The position requires “hands-on leadership” to ensure program execution, development of strategic approaches to support stakeholder engagement and creation and sponsoring of effective communications to leverage and achieve top-tier safety performance outcomes.
Essential Job Accountabilities :
- Lead and oversee the organization’s environmental, health and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state and federal EH&S standards and regulations
- Be a strategic partner with operations to drive a proactive, zero-incident safety culture
- Lead PURIS EH&S leaders and subcontractors and align with enterprise EH&S performance targets / goals that focus on accountability and continuous improvement
- Engage with, manage and coach PURIS operations to ensure compliance in all regulatory and EH&S areas
- Act as a change agent for development of policies and best practices for proactive, continuous improvement
- Oversee the daily operations of the EH&S function and general activities supporting regulatory reporting and compliance
- Work with risk management to help oversee, manage, mitigate worker’s compensation and claims
- Lead, develop, and implement all EH&S strategies, plans and procedures based on leading indicators and audit-based corrective actions
- Strategically recruit safety leaders to enhance the PURIS team of EH&S professionals
- Lead the organization while building a positive safety culture focused on influencing behaviors using Safety Behavioral Leadership methodologies
- Set comprehensive goals / performance metrics for the achievement of sustainable safety performance outcomes
- Consult with all claims adjusters as necessary, and maintain clear channels of communication with risk management, key insurance advisors and the legal team
- Facilitate all safety incident alert communications, alert tracking and documentation of alert corrective action closure – updating executive leadership as necessary and appropriate
- Maintain an automated system / platform for administering EH&S audits, DOT driver files, safety support bid documentation, and risk level assessments for all business unit job site activities
- Facilitate safety culture surveys and gap analysis assessments as the baseline for developing strategic direction and to support sustainable safety performance outcomes.
- Identify, develop, and implement safety training / education opportunities for operations management, and onboarding / refresher training platforms to support the field workforce
- Work on special projects as directed by executive leadership
Education and Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or Risk Management required;Master’s in Occupational Safety and Health preferred;Certified Safety Professional, or equivalentMinimum of 15 years of senior-level safety experience in construction / utilities / mining, or multiple business unit manufacturing environment required;Experience managing worker’s compensation matters from inception to conclusion;Minimum of 15 years of managing cross functional teams, and operating at a senior level overseeing / directing the safety function support team;Certified Safety Professional designation is desirable;Advanced knowledge of culture survey tools; ability to benchmark enterprise best practices;Proficient in Microsoft office, including Word, Excel and Power Point.Strong leadership and strategic thinking to foster a proactive safety cultureDemonstrated commitment to safe working practicesProven team player skills with ability to build and maintain internal and external relationshipsStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational and interpersonal skillsExcellent problem solving and analytical skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionDemonstrated ability to mentor, train and coachBenefits :
