The Director plans, directs, and monitors the activities and operations of the Facilities and Grounds department including grounds maintenance and facility construction and renovation. Responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of all college physical plant facilities and grounds, management of all ancillary utilities and other assigned services, and development and implementation of short and long-term capital maintenance and improvement programs with a focus on institutional sustainability efforts including initiatives focused on greenhouse gas emissions reduction, transportation planning, green building, procurement, waste management, energy and water conservation, research, education, and inclusive engagement.

Education and Experience :

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Facilities Management, Building Construction, Engineering, Architecture or related field with five years of progressively responsible management experience in plant / facilities management; a Professional Engineer (PE) license or graduate degree is preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

Develops, plans, implements, and administers department goals and budgets.

Coordinates short and long-range planning pertaining to facilities and grounds; develops recommendations to facilitate achievement of goals and objectives.

Directs and oversees implementation of the department work plan, assigned work, activities, and projects.

Coordinates department activities with other college divisions, departments, and outside agencies.

Confers with and provides leadership to department personnel and assists and advises high level college administrators and staff on matters related to facilities.

Advises and supports the Vice President of Administration and Finance and campus leadership on climate, sustainability, energy, stewardship, and environmental justice strategies to meet campus, SUNY, and state climate goals.

Provides leadership on campus sustainability efforts to foster sustainability broadly across campus units, fostering a culture of sustainability among students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and creating a campus sustainability network to enhance awareness, implementation, and success.

Works collaboratively with campus constituencies on sustainability plans on campus to obtain short and long-range program goals as well as accountability for campus’s progress. Works with academic departments, Residential Life, and student groups to integrate sustainability into curricula, programs, and campus life.

Tracks metrics, annual report progress, and evaluate sustainability programs.

Reviews, monitors and evaluates projects in progress, contract compliance, and quality control.

Evaluates Plant Services operations on on-going basis; recommend change to ensure efficient results.

Maintains, implements and monitors a plan of preventative facility and equipment maintenance and ensure that it is adequately carried out.

Monitors and manages all utility support and services and investigates, develops and implements energy savings programs as appropriate.

Develops specifications and prepares budget estimates, in conjunction with the Vice President for Administration and Finance for all capital and renovation projects.

Coordinates, with the Director of Campus Safety and Assistant Director of Environmental Health and Safety, efforts to address and implement policies and procedures concerning matters of risk management and safety.

Promptly communicates and advises in coordination with Campus Safety, the President, and Vice President for Administration, emergency conditions of facilities.

Initiates and coordinates all required reporting to the State University of New York Construction Fund, Ontario County’s FLCC Projects Committee and the Ontario County Planning Office.

Hires, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel; disciplines and implements corrective actions as necessary. Schedules and / or delegates the scheduling of all assigned tasks and ensures their satisfactory completion, and compliance with all labor agreements.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Working knowledge of facility mechanical and environmental systems and a strong understanding of construction standards, materials and related building code requirements.

Knowledge of landscaping and turf issues related to athletic fields and college grounds.

Strong ability to develop written bid specifications, evaluate contracts, and manage outside contractors.

Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal with diverse groups.

Ability to manage a department, including supervising employees and managing performance.

Strong project management and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities.

Benefits and Salary Range

Applicants receiving benefits through the New York State Retirement System should review state regulations regarding post-retirement employment. This position is not eligible for employment under a Section 211 waiver

The competitive salary range for this position is $99,828 - $123,627 and is commensurate with qualifications
