Shift : Primarily Days with Rotation to Evenings — Weekend and Holiday Work may be required (8-hour shifts)
Description : Minimum Requirements
Education :
High school graduate or equivalentGraduate of a certified Phlebotomy program or equivalentExperience :
Preference given to candidates with hospital laboratory phlebotomy experienceKnowledge, Skills, Abilities :
Effective communication with co-workers, patients, medical staff, and visitorsAbility to make mature judgmentsPleasant personality for patient interactionLicense / Certification / Registration :
Certified Phlebotomist (ASCP, AMT, CLSI, or equivalent)Must meet American Heart Association standards for BLS (renew every 2 years)Supervision Received :
General supervision from Medical Director, Administrative Director, Assistant Administrative Director, Supervising Technologist, and Section HeadsEssential Functions :
Collects blood via venipuncture, arterial puncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques per lab procedureVerifies patient ID before specimen collectionResponds promptly to specimen collection requests and communicates any delaysPerforms bedside glucose testing and maintains quality controlPrepares, labels, and delivers specimens accurately for processingInstructs patients on proper specimen collection (urine, sputum, chain of custody, etc.)Maintains organized, error-free workflowProvides assistance and communication to lab staff and patient care teamsSeeks supervisor guidance when specimen handling or orders are unclearPrepares and documents specimens for reference lab testingMaintains clean, stocked collection areasAssists in report distribution, glassware washing, and laboratory organizationComplies with CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, and PA Department of Health standardsFollows all safety, infection control, and QA proceduresMaintains confidentiality and accurate documentation for patient informationEnsures inventory control, cost efficiency, and reagent managementAssists in implementing and evaluating new lab procedures or productsSuggests improvements in accuracy and workflow efficiencyNon-Essential Functions :
Performs related duties as assignedAssists staff during workload fluctuationsWorks weekends / holidays or rotates shifts as needed (assigned by seniority)Guaranteed Hours : 40 per week
