Essential Job Functions : The main purpose of this position is to provide efficient and quality customer service to the public and other agencies in all areas of the District Court of Maryland. It is the responsibility of the clerk to accurately answer inquiries, enter data and process documents, primarily relating to expungements and criminal / traffic cases. The incumbent of this position completes the expungement process from beginning to end using Odyssey for all District Court locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Review, accept, and process criminal traffic expungement filings for all District Court cases through MDEC / Odyssey. Review and add compliance agencies for automatic expungements. Review, accept and process filings for District Court cases through MDEC / Odyssey. Assist Court locations and / or customers by telephone and / or email. Enter criminal, civil, municipal infraction and DNR citations, returned mail, and landlord / tenant filings. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications : Education : High school diploma (or GED equivalent). Experience : One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services. Note : A Bachelors Degree may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal / Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Knowledge of : General office practices, procedures, and equipment. Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary. Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Skill in : Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently. Typing on a personal computer. Accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to : Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, microfilm machine, register, scanner, fax machine, etc. Use and maintain alphabetical and numerical filing systems. Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing. Understand and abide by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures. Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys. Follow procedures, verbal and written instructions, and protocols for any given assignment. Use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and / or regulation to a situation. Software and Computer Skills : Windows Odyssey Case Management System to process cases. File and Serve to accept e-filings. Microsoft Word to process documents in Odyssey. Connect to submit timesheets, leave requests and employee evaluations. Officer Portal to enter and manage officer dates. Outlook to access and send / receive emails. J-Portal to locate archived records that have been scanned and look up e-citations. Excel to access and / or create / update spreadsheets. Microsoft Teams to relay information between clerks and judges.
