- Citizenship Requirements : Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Clearance Requirements : National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
- Period of Performance : Time of Award up to five (5) years.
- Type of Employment : Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Estimated Pay : $20.24 - $25.33 per hour.
- Pay Holidays : Eleven (11) Paid Holidays.
- Paid Time Off : 80 hours, occurring on day one.
- Sick Leave : 56 hours, occurring on day one.
Working Hours
The Dental Assistant will typically work Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), between 07 : 30 AM and 4 : 00 PM, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. The Dental Assistant's schedule shall not exceed 40 hours per week. The Health Services Administrator will determine the actual hours of work. Due to the nature of the correctional setting, delays in work performance may occur. Such delays may include, but are not limited to, inclement weather, electrical or mechanical problems, or other security matters.
Summary of Duties
The Dental Assistant will provide services such as retrieving patients' records and escorting them to the appropriate dental specialty section; seating and preparing patients for the attending Dental Officer; assisting the Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials, drugs, and medications; passing instruments and performing other related duties.
Qualifications
Must possess a high school certificate or GED.Must be a graduate from a Dental Assistant accredited school or program and / or possess specialty training from a licensed dentist and / or certification.Must have a Dental Assistant Radiology Certificate for the state of Florida.Must have an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) from the state of Florida.A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Dental Assistant.Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.Have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethics backgrounds.Copies of all certifications and resumes must be forwarded with your application.Attire
The contractors are expected to wear professional clothing while on duty. The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employees will be performing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists Dental Officer in dental specialty sections : restorative, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations.Retrieves patients' records and escorts patients to the proper dental specialty section; seats and prepares patients for attending to the Dental Officer.Provide side assistance to the dental officers and dental hygienists.Assists the Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials, drugs, and medications.Demonstrating complete familiarity with four-handed dentistry with respect to technical methods and procedures.Performing sterilization and disinfection techniques on instruments.Taking, developing, and mounting dental x-rays, including bite wings, periapical, and Panorex.Uses dental hand instruments, mechanical instruments (including ultrasonic), oral hygiene aides, and prophylaxis paste to provide necessary oral prophylactic services.Expanded duty functions and dental lab duties.Clerical duties such as scheduling of patient appointments, maintaining daily activity logs, maintaining stock supplies, and identifying supplies needing to be ordered.Maintaining accountability of instruments and other dental supplies.Performing equipment maintenance per manufacturer and / or CDO instructions. Accomplishing minor repairs to keep equipment in proper operating condition.Participating in or completing Improving Organizational Performance (IOP) activities and / or studies.Participation in emergency training exercises and maintaining skills in the operation of emergency equipment.Providing Chief Dental Officers (CDO) approved patient education to inmate patients.Other duties as assigned by the CDO or designee.Makes necessary entries on dental treatment records (both electronic and paper records).Specific directions related to unusual treatment in emergency professional therapy are provided by the attending dentist, who explains changes in professional dental procedures available to resolve such problems and offers advice as needed. Guidelines consist of applicable professional practices and specific written and oral instructions.
