The Associate position will report to a Senior Manager on the New Business Models, Valuation & Investments team. The primary role of this position is to prepare investment valuations to assess new initiatives, business models, and technologies within renewable energy. The Associate will work with teams across the business to build complex financial models to evaluate project economics and assist directors / managers in the decision-making process.  Strong candidates will have experience in the valuation of renewable energy projects across technologies (primarily Solar, Wind, Energy Storage) and markets in the US as well as exposure to innovation and innovation analysis.

Must be local or willing to relocate to NYC, Louisville CO, or Arlington VA.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Identify and propose new opportunities for business development, potentially leading to innovative strategies and / or business models; Collaborate with relevant stake holders across AES to develop these innovative ideas
  • Evaluate new initiatives by researching and analyzing market data such as opportunity size, customers, competitor activities, and financing mechanisms
  • Create quantitative models to translate new market research into valuation and decision-making tools on new business initiatives for senior leadership
  • Support quality assurance on market and economic metrics going to the senior management for project development decision-making
  • Manage the modeling process for transactions that you lead or support

Skills and Qualifications :

  • 5+ years’ experience in renewable energy project finance / valuation or finance / investment banking in the power sector required.
  • Understanding of the debt and tax equity structures utilized for financing renewable energy transactions required.
  • Experience with innovation and / or business development preferred.
  • Experience supporting and leading investment approvals preferred.
  • Strong business and financial intuition with the ability to support a high-performance organization that will deliver operational excellence and meet or exceed financial targets.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and capabilities to work in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word.
  • Diligent, detailed oriented, and dynamic; able to self-organize priorities.
  • Fun to work with.
  • Education :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Finance, Business, Math, or relevant work experience preferred.
