Dean of Expeditions (Candidate Pool), SY 25-26 (California)
Summit Public Schools invites experienced educators and community partners to lead the Expeditions Program at our San Jose, CA site. The Dean will oversee a team of approximately 10 faculty and staff, coordinate community partnerships, and ensure students receive meaningful, aligned experiences during Expeditions and throughout the school year.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as acting Executive Director for 8 weeks of the year.
- Coach, mentor, and support Expeditions teachers, staff, and contractors.
- Collaborate with school and network leadership on shared Expeditions staff initiatives.
- Coordinate with other Expeditions Deans and the Director of Expeditions to plan 4 weeks of staff professional development each year.
- Share best practices, cultivate external partnerships, and manage community‑partner submissions, contracts, and quality criteria.
- Develop and maintain systems that align student experiences with the school’s mission, support student reflection, and streamline scheduling.
- Lead all faculty, staff, and parents in fostering a strong school culture that embraces the school’s vision, values restorative practices, and supports student growth during Expeditions.
- Oversee logistics and safety for field trips, off‑campus experiences, and transportation in partnership with the Dean of Operations.
- Ensure compliance with attendance, safety, and incident reporting requirements during expeditions rounds.
Key Qualities and Skills
Bachelor’s Degree.Teaching credential and prior teaching experience.Strong commitment to Summit’s values and a student‑centered, equitable education vision.Experience in community organizing, school leadership, or project and people management.Proficiency with Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides).Clear health clearance and background check.What You’re Like

Competitive salary range : $103,663 – $122,635 (commensurate with experience).
