Overview

The Traveling Carpenter performs hands-on construction and carpentry work at various project sites, ensuring quality craftsmanship, safety, and adherence to project specifications. This role requires frequent travel, flexibility, and strong teamwork across multiple job locations.

Essential Functions

  • Perform physical labor including framing, drywall, painting, and concrete work.
  • Travel to and work at assigned project sites as directed.
  • Measure, shape, and cut materials to specified dimensions.
  • Install structures and fixtures such as windows, doors, flooring, trim, and hardware.
  • Safely erect and dismantle scaffolding and ladders.
  • Support site safety and quality control programs.
  • Inspect and maintain hand and power tools; report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and dispose of waste properly.
  • Follow written and verbal safety instructions.
  • Represent the company professionally with customers, contractors, and coworkers.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support project success.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently and stay overnight as required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of carpentry experience.
  • Strong work ethic with integrity, maturity, and teamwork.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and carpentry tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Skilled in framing, foundations, and finish carpentry.
  • Basic math and geometry proficiency.
  • Attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required government site clearances (including FRA).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Flexibility for night and weekend work as needed.
  • Working Conditions

  • Work performed primarily at active construction sites.
  • Exposure to moving machinery, heights, outdoor weather, and loud noise.
  • Must comply with all company and site safety procedures.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
  • Physical Demands

    Constantly (2 / 3 of the day or more) :

    Standing, walking, bending, twisting, lifting up to 20 lbs., pushing / pulling, balancing, and repetitive motions.

    Frequently (1 / 3 to 2 / 3 of the day) :

    Lifting / carrying 25–50 lbs., reaching above / below shoulders, and climbing.

    Occasionally (up to 1 / 3 of the day) :

    Lifting up to 50 lbs., kneeling, crawling, squatting, or sitting.

    Note : This position requires consistent travel to job sites and flexibility to meet project schedules, including occasional nights and weekends.
