The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. (RFMH) is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as General Mechanic - Plumber at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI).
The successful candidate must be skilled in the use of hand and power tools used in the plumbing trade with a knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and safety practices to perform the work. The successful candidate must also have the ability to read and follow blueprints and rough drawings; familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, brass and copper materials and the various methods to install them, including but not limited to welding, braising, and pro-press; and proficiency in basic mathematics and conversion of measurements. The successful candidate must possess effective oral communication and interpersonal skills, excellent problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and the ability to complete projects unsupervised and unassisted. The successful candidate must be willing and able to perform physical tasks which involve lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), walking, stooping, standing, pulling, etc.
