Lead Heavy Equipment Operator

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Lead Heavy Equipment Operator within the Public Works Department, Stormwater Division. This position requires the operation of multiple types of heavy motorized equipment to remove and haul debris and other items to and from City facilities. Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment including but not limited to : backhoes, track hoes, loaders, dump trucks, bulldozers, motor graders, compressors, etc. Work includes driving equipment and assisting with various departmental projects.

What you'll be doing :

• Operates a variety of heavy motorized equipment involved in the construction and maintenance of.
• Transports equipment from location to location.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment, such as checking and filling fluid levels and greasing as necessary.
• Inspects equipment daily and reports need for repairs; assists in repair work.
• Trains less-experienced Equipment Operators in operation of various types of equipment as workload and time permit.
• Performs a variety of manual or semi-skilled labor in conjunction with stormwater construction and maintenance projects.
• Performs related work as required.
• Operates dump truck with spreader & plow during winter weather events.
• This position is considered an indirect supervisory position in that it is required to fill in for the Crew Supervisor in the supervisor's absence.
