About The Position

Job Title : Special Care Nurse / NICU RN

Profession : Registered Nurse

Experience : Minimum of 2 years of experience required, including prior travel assignment with solid NICU experience.

License : Valid state license required.

Certifications : BLS, NRP, STABLE

Must-Have :

  • Proficient in dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
  • Experience with IV antibiotics, vasopressors for codes, insulin titration, and cardiac management.
  • Ability to manage central lines and draw blood cultures.
  • Competent in ventilator management and CPAP.
  • Skilled in peripheral IV starts.

Description :

The position requires a Special Care Nurse / NICU RN to provide care in a Level II special care nursery.

Patients include babies born at or after 32 weeks who need a higher level of care without NICU admission.

The nurse will monitor and maintain the stability of cardiopulmonary, neurologic, metabolic, and thermal functions.

Responsibilities include assisting with specialized procedures such as lumbar puncture and resuscitation of newborns.

Nurses must initiate, modify, or stop treatment per established protocols or physician orders.

The role entails the management of respiratory support via High Flow O2, CPAP, Bubble CPAP, and Mechanical Ventilation.

Additionally, the nurse will perform peripheral IV insertions, lab draws, and the administration of IV antibiotics.

A strong knowledge of apnea and bradycardia related to preterm infants is essential.

The candidate should be adept in the stabilization of newborns less than 32 weeks and preparing them for transport as needed.

Thermoregulation techniques for premature and full-term infants, including passive cooling, are required.

Proficiency in neonatal resuscitation is required; candidates must have NRP certification and S.T.A.B.L.E. certification.

The patient-to-nurse ratio will typically be 1 : 3.

Floating to equivalent or lower acuity units may be required.

Call will be necessary every other weekend and during holiday rotations as needed.

Interdisciplinary support is available in various departments including respiratory, interpretation, radiology, social services, and pharmacy.

Completion of necessary modules prior to the start of the assignment will be expected.
