Description :
This role, under general supervision, permits the Medical Laboratory Technician to perform tests requiring limited skill and responsibility.
Independent judgment is exercised minimally as competency is demonstrated.
Maintains acceptable accuracy in patient testing, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency testing.
Meets department standards for correct patient or specimen identification.
Meets department standard for error rates in testing or reporting results.
Documents investigations and correct interpretations of quality assurance failures or trends.
Earns acceptable scores in proficiency testing and personnel competency testing.
Maintains instrumentation for testing.
Uses clinical or theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret, and report lab data.
Reports lab data accurately and in a timely manner.
Recognizes the relationship between lab data and clinical findings or expectations.
Initiates investigation of problems and works toward resolution.
Interprets information from multiple sources.
Practices information monitoring, investigation, resolution, and hand-off to team members.
Complies with procedures for tracking laboratory test status.
Documents all elements of the notification value call procedure.
Hands off information to others according to departmental procedures and chain of command.
Adheres to professional standards and takes personal responsibility for corrective action on constructive criticism.
Practices organizational skills for efficient time, material use, cost control, and completing testing.
Meets deadlines for turn-around times required by the department.
Meets department-defined standards for organizational skills and productivity.
Practices cost-efficient work processes that maintain high-quality laboratory data.
Maintains current knowledge and practice of policies and procedures.
Demonstrates adequate knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance.
Practices all safety standards and participates in meetings, committees, task forces, and project teams.
Completes monthly, quarterly, or yearly educational requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.
