Scientific Grant Writer (2 Years Fixed-Term, 50% FTE) - School of Medicine, Redwood City, California, United States

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is actively seeking a Scientific Grant Writer (Writer 2) to work under the general direction of Dr. Amanatullah (PI) to develop, implement, and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of externally funded research. The Grant Writer will be responsible for program strategy development / management and will work with the PI and other researchers to develop, draft, edit, and submit manuscripts and grant proposals to federal and non-federal funding agencies. The Grant Writer will serve as a resource expert to support the growth and development of Dr. Amanatullah’s Arthritis & Joint Replacement research program. This research has seen dramatic growth in the past few years, so we are seeking a candidate with the ability to multi-task and be extremely detail oriented, self-motivated and a team player. The candidate must also have excellent communication skills that allow high level interactions with a diverse academic and medical community. This is a 2-year Fixed Term position.

Duties include

  • Develop and research ideas for written publication / communication on topics of moderate complexity.
  • Consult with internal and external customers to understand the need and purpose of a project.
  • Compose written material for diverse audiences, across a variety of channels.
  • Manage production of own publications / communications and adhere to deadlines.
  • Compose written material.

  • Develop, compile and edit supplemental materials that support written communication (i.e., backgrounders, biographies, executive talking points, and other related materials).
  • Establish and maintain extensive contacts with key sources (media, news services, community organizations and other targeted audiences) to identify story themes and newsworthy events to promote and disseminate information.
  • Maintain department style standards.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science preferred; English / Literature degree with appropriate exposure or technical competence in sciences will also be considered.
  • Doctoral or master’s level experience in scientific writing.
  • Advanced degree in biomedical science or related field.
  • Experience with developing, editing, reviewing, and applying for grants and sponsored research.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED) :

    Bachelor's degree or greater and five years of related experience, or a combination of education and related experience.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED) :

  • Proven success in writing for publication in print, web, and other platforms.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner.
  • Ability to understand materials of moderate complexity and synthesize across multiple sources to produce materials for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to change voice and writing style to fit a particular audience and purpose.
  • Firm understanding of web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to interact effectively with a diverse array of people, including senior leaders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand / walk, sit, grasp lightly / fine manipulation, and use a telephone, writing by hand.
  • Occasionally reach / work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, and sort / file paperwork or parts, lift / carry / push / pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory acuity, including color vision required.

  • This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

    The expected pay range for this position is $81,405 to $105,663 per annum.

    Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
