Overview
The Project Engineer III role within the Transmission Department involves performing advanced engineering tasks for electric utility projects and providing technical expertise with minimal supervision. This position handles complex assignments, while delegating and reviewing routine work completed by junior engineers and engineering technicians. Responsibilities include delivering sealed drawings, specifications, and contracted project documents. The level of oversight will depend on the candidates experience and qualifications.
This position is open for the Baltimore and Raleigh offices.
Key Responsibilities
Apply RUS and NESC standards proficiently.
Design and analyze transmission and distribution overhead power lines using PLS-CADD to meet project objectives in a cost-efficient, technically sound manner. Work may involve building new models or updating existing ones.
Produce accurate technical reports, calculations, sketches, documentation, and correspondence.
Prepare sealed engineering drawings, specifications, material lists, and labor contracts for utility projects.
Support ongoing development of internal and client standards for future planning and design work.
Collaborate effectively with clients, vendors, partners, and team members at all levels.
Conduct field and site visits to perform design reviews, observations, and inspections, typically alongside a senior team member.
Travel as needed to support project requirements.
Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
4+ years of relevant experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Proficiency in PLS-CADD.
