Job description

Provide a safe and clean living and learning environment for students, staff and guests by responding to the daily cleaning and maintenance of campus facilities with a focus on sustainability and customer services. Plan, schedule, and execute cleaning and setup plans for incoming and outgoing groups and visitors. Provide guidance to hourly staff.

The position requires working and living at the remote Mountain Campus from May until October , including potential weekend and holiday coverage. The remainder of the year is spent working on the main CSU campus in Fort Collins.

  • One year of custodial experience appropriate to the work assignment
  • Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a valid drivers license by the position start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • General custodial and maintenance experience within a school district, commercial campus, residential multi-unit apartment complex, healthcare facility, assisted living facility, hotel, or other similar environment.
  • Experience with live-in work including experience entering personal living spaces with awareness and appropriate social interactions.
  • Experience working with a team to complete tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to teach peers how to perform job tasks.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail

  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of light commercial and / or multi-unit residential facilities.
  • Climb ladders, enter crawl spaces and use scaffolding in the performance of duties.
  • Lubricate and perform preventive maintenance as directed.
  • Perform minor electrical maintenance tasks by troubleshooting and replacing defective components in light fixtures, receptacles, switches, garbage disposals, kitchen exhaust fans, and ranges. Adjust and install a variety of residential and light commercial building hardware.
  • Perform minor plumbing / mechanical maintenance tasks by troubleshooting and replacing defective components in plumbing fixtures, faucets, garbage disposals, exhaust fans, supply fans, and small circulating pumps and motors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as directed.
  • Repairs drywall, painted surfaces, hard surface materials, various floor coverings, suspended ceilings systems, and other general carpentry / maintenance-related tasks under the direction of journey-level skilled trades staff.

  • Keep residential lodging, learning, and dining environments clean and safe using green practices : environmentally safe chemicals, water conservation, recycling, conserving energy by turning off lights, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect showers, toilets, walls, sinks, drains, vents, trash receptacles, ceilings, floors, mirrors, vanities, windows, appliances, furnishings, and all handhold surfaces.
  • Clean carpet in lodging, living, learning, and dining environments by vacuuming and shampooing. Clean hard surface floors by sweeping, mopping, and buffing.
  • Clean around outside of buildings by picking up trash, sweeping, snow / ice removal, wood stove ash removal.
  • Prepare spaces for incoming conferences, events, academic courses, researchers, and other guests based on group preferences and instruction from supervisors, including making beds and preparing linens.
  • Provide building opening and lock¬up procedures.
  • Dispose of trash / recyclables from internal / external receptacles.
  • Provide clean¬up for blood-borne pathogen situations not handled by EHS.
  • Respond to plumbing and heating-related emergencies as well as body fluid cleanup, which includes the after-hours response from normal daily work schedule in order to meet University, Department, or customer needs.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.

  • Determine material, supply and linen needs, and order as necessary to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Analyze incoming and outgoing groups and visitors and appropriately schedule and plan cleaning and building preparation.
  • Utilize basic computer operations including, but not limited to, the AssetWorks system, Outlook, Teams, and other electronic systems.
  • Enter work time and leave requests into designated software systems.
  • Act as crew leader for hourly seasonal staff.
  • Attend all meetings, committees, and department-sponsored functions. Actively participate in meetings and customer contacts as directed.
  • Provide input into processes, tasks and schedules.
  • Attend all required / recommended training / classes / seminars provided by HDS including topics such as ethics, safety, diversity, communications, BBP, and any applicable training in providing the best customer service.
  • Comply with HDS Facilities Handbook, Mountain Campus Employee Handbook, and University Departmental Procedures and Policies.
  • Develop awareness / enforcement of student / guest behavior expectations, identifying red flags such as alcohol, drugs, fire alarms, unhealthy living conditions, etc. Remind guests of personal safety (locking doors and windows, unpropping EXIT doors, etc.)
  • Develop professional skills and communication to interact with live in residents and guests effectively and appropriately and contribute to a positive sense of community. Learn, apply, and demonstrate how to enter personal living space with an awareness / enforcement of privacy and discretion for residents and guests.
