Senior CDN & Edge Delivery Engineer (Contract)

We're looking for a seasoned Senior CDN & Edge Delivery Engineer to take ownership of
our content delivery infrastructure and ensure our web platforms run fast, secure, and
reliably. You'll be the go-to expert for our Fastly CDN implementation, managing everything
from VCL optimization to edge compute strategies. You'll also work with our NGINX Plus
reverse proxy layer and help integrate our bot protection tools. This role is perfect for
someone who lives and breathes CDN performance and has real production experience
keeping high-traffic sites running smoothly in Microsoft Azure.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day operations and continuous optimization of our Fastly CDN
- platform, including writing and maintaining VCL logic, fine-tuning caching strategies,
- and leveraging edge compute features to improve performance and user experience.
- Architect and implement advanced edge delivery solutions using Fastly, designing
- traffic patterns that reduce origin load, improve global latency, and maximize cache
- hit rates across our application portfolio.
- Lead initiatives to optimize content delivery performance, working closely with
- application teams to implement smart caching policies, compression strategies, and
- edge-side logic that accelerates page loads and API responses.
- Manage SSL / TLS certificate lifecycles, edge security configurations, and WAF policies
- at the CDN layer to protect against threats while maintaining performance.
- Collaborate with security teams to integrate and tune Kasada bot protection at the
- edge, ensuring malicious traffic is blocked before it reaches our infrastructure.
- Support and maintain our NGINX Plus reverse proxy tier, handling configuration
- updates, performance tuning, and integration with upstream CDN and cloud services.
- Build automation for CDN and proxy deployments using Python, Ansible, and CI / CD
- tools like Jenkins, making configuration changes safe, repeatable, and fast.
- Work across the full traffic stack—Fastly, NGINX, and Azure networking services—to
- design and implement routing solutions for new applications and features.Incident Management & Operational Excellence
- Jump in as the technical lead when things go sideways with web traffic, coordinating
- troubleshooting across CDN, proxy, and application layers to get services back up
- quickly.
- Communicate clearly with management during incidents—explaining what's broken,
- what the business impact is, and what we're doing about it, all without drowning
- anyone in technical details.
- Write thorough post-incident reviews that dig into root causes and lead the
- conversation with both technical teams and leadership about how we prevent similar
- issues going forward.
- Keep documentation current and detailed so the rest of the team can operate
- independently and work effectively with vendors like Fastly and NGINX when needed.
- Stay reachable during critical incidents to keep communication flowing and resolution
- moving forward.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field.8+ years of hands-on experience in CDN management, cloud infrastructure, network engineering, or DevOps with a focus on content delivery and web traffic.Deep, production-level expertise with Fastly CDN—you should be comfortable writing complex VCL, troubleshooting cache behavior, implementing edge logic, and optimizing delivery performance at scale.Solid working knowledge of NGINX or NGINX Plus for reverse proxy and load balancing use cases, including configuration management and performance tuning.Experience with bot mitigation platforms like Kasada is a plus.Strong background working in Microsoft Azure, particularly with networking services likeApplication Gateway, Load Balancers, and Autoscaling.Proficiency with automation tools—particularly Python and Ansible—for infrastructure as code and configuration management.Experience integrating CDN and traffic management into CI / CD pipelines is highly valued.
