Burrow Global is a leading engineering and project delivery company specializing in process safety, instrumentation, and control systems for the chemical, refining, and petrochemical industries. We are expanding our team with an experienced Instrument and Controls Engineer who specializes in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) commissioning.
We are seeking an experienced SIS commissioning specialist to join our project teams and work closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partners. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in SIS design review, safety-in-design validation, SIS testing (FAT / SAT), and lifecycle management of SIS and related equipment. This role requires a strong safety mindset, deep knowledge of process safety instrumentation, and the ability to lead troubleshooting, commissioning, and gatekeeping activities across multiple projects.
This position will last 6-8 months and be onsite in Orange, TX. Position will start immediately upon completing onboarding requirements. Per diem is available for candidates living more than 50 miles from Orange, TX.
Key Project Responsibilities
- Collaborate with EPC partners to :
- Review SIS equipment data sheets and ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Verify that SIS design and layout comply with safety and “safety-in-design” standards.
- Review and validate Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
- Review and verify PHA / IPL analysis recommendations and revalidations.
- Review and verify detail design SIL calculations.
- Support SIS Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) procedure development and FAT execution.
- Support SIS Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) procedure development and SAT execution.
- Participate in HAZOP / LOPA sessions, PSSRs, and MOCs.
- Support Degradation Operation Analyses (DOA) and development of related procedures.
- Assist in the development of SIS and Mechanical Integrity Covered Equipment (MICE) preventative maintenance plans.
- Coordinate the SIS spare parts list and facilitate turnover after Plant Mechanical Completion (PMC).
- Manage the SIS lifecycle program and processes.
- Serve as the local expert for SIS industry standards and gatekeeper for all SIS changes and modifications.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement plans and processes to ensure preventative maintenance testing is completed on time.
- Perform corrective and preventative activities on control systems during daily operations, equipment turnarounds, and projects.
Additional Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and lead failure analysis on instrumented equipment; recommend corrective or preventive actions.Conduct factory acceptance tests of instrumented systems at vendor facilities.Coordinate programming and participation in new projects involving instrumented safety systems.Program and configure simplex PLCs, redundant failsafe controllers, and distributed control systems (DCS).Commission instrumented systems during scheduled outages.Required Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related engineering field with at least 3 years of experience in maintaining / designing process safety instrumentation; OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.Safety-first mindset with a strong commitment to process safety.Deep knowledge of automation / control systems, including : DCS, PLC, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), function block and ladder logic programming, relay logic, and industrial instrumentation and electrical equipment.
