Locum Tenens Cardiothoracic Surgeon – 24-Hour Call Coverage

Duluth, MN

Ongoing needs following initial assignment

Position Overview

Hospital is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Cardiothoracic Surgeon for 24-hour call-only locum coverage. The initial need is for August 2025, with additional ongoing opportunities for future dates.

This position involves call-only coverage (7am–7am), with no clinic responsibilities. The role includes a mix of cardiac and general thoracic cases, with an average of 0–3 cases per day.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 24-hour call coverage for cardiothoracic surgery patients

Manage a variety of cardiac and thoracic surgeries and procedures, including :

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)

TAVR

Congenital defect repairs

Lung resections

Aneurysm repairs

Chest wall and pleural procedures

Esophageal and diaphragmatic surgeries

Permanent pacemaker and AICD placements

Vent management

Bronchoscopy

Central and arterial line placement

PA catheter and IABP management

Candidate Requirements

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery

Active MN license or IMLC eligibility

ACLS and ATLS certification required

DEA license required

Minimum of 2+ years of Cardiothoracic Surgery experience

Strong diagnostic skills with a collaborative and patient-first approach

Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends

Support Staff :

2 Cardiothoracic Surgeons

3 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)

1 Medical Assistant (MA)

Separate vascular service handles vascular cases

Credentialing

Timeframe : 60–90 days
