Washington County Public Health Division within the Department of Health and Human Services is hiring a Variable Hour Public Health Nurse II to join the Harm Reduction team .

About the Opportunity
In this position, you will conduct outreach testing for communicable disease to populations at high risk for HIV, Hepatitis C, and syphilis. Under the direction of the County Health Officer and Public Health Nursing Supervisor, you will work with other public health nurses and community health workers to provide harm reduction services as part of a mobile outreach team. The outreach work will include providing education, information, and resources on infection prevention, basic wound care, harm reduction activities, and referral support, as well as broadening access and opportunity to trauma-informed prevention and intervention services for individuals with substance use disorders, housing instability, and / or mental health challenges. Additionally, you will work with individuals from various backgrounds to identify sexual and communicable disease in high-risk individuals through point of care testing.
This position will be oriented to communicable disease and public health work and will require providing communicable disease treatment in the field to individuals that are unable to access treatment through usual means. The position works as part of a team and requires a commitment to collaboration, communication, and support.
Due to the nature of duties, this position travels the majority of time via a mobile van and provide in-person services only, remote work is not eligible.
Variable hour positions are at-will and hours are limited to maximum of 20 hours per week. These positions will accrue sick time and are not eligible for vacation accrual, holiday pay, or other customary benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance benefits.
Who we are looking for :
The ideal candidate is skilled in written and verbal communication and have the ability to engage individuals using calm, nonjudgmental tone and language as a Washington County representative when working with community leaders, partners and individuals. They will have knowledge of harm reduction strategies and outreach work or have experience with individuals with substance use disorder, mental or behavioral health conditions. They will also have proficiency in various computer applications to complete forms, correspondence, spreadsheets, and data entry. Proficiency in Electronic Health Records, preferably EPIC, is desired. Additionally, they will have organizational skills for efficient fieldwork including flexibility, multi-tasking and dependability. Ability to provide advocacy and expertise to community partners and harm reduction staff at Washington County Public Health is highly preferred.
