SUMMARY: The Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) is a community-based, mobile individual responsible for providing Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST) and Therapeutic Behavioral Support (TBS) services that address the individualized mental health needs of clients.
Services are directed towards adults, children, adolescents, and families, and will vary with respect to hours, type, and intensity, depending on the changing needs of each client as defined by an active Treatment Plan.
The purpose/intent of CPST/TBS is to provide specific, measurable, and individualized services to each person served. CPST services should be focused on the individual's ability to succeed in the community; to identify and access needed services, and to show improvement in school, work and family and integration and contributions within the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initial and ongoing assessment of client needs in conjunction with clinical providers.
- Develops and maintains quality, accurate clinical charts for all clients served.
- Adhere to agency productivity standard.
- Assist clients in achieving personal independence and managing basic needs as identified by the individual and/or parent or guardian.
- Facilitation in further development of daily living skills, if identified by the individual and/or parent or guardian.
- Provide services identified in the Treatment Plan.
- Assistance with accessing natural support systems in the community.
- Linkage to formal community services/systems.
- Participate in organized after school programs as assigned.
- Participate in summer groups as assigned.
- Advocacy and outreach.
- Education and training specific to the individual's assessed needs, abilities, and readiness to learn, as appropriate.
- Mental health interventions that address symptoms, behaviors, thought processes, etc., that assist an individual in eliminating barriers to seeking or maintaining education and employment.
- Activities that increase the individual's capacity to positively impact his/her own environment; and
- Participate in ongoing training as required by state, local and organization standards
- Provide individualized therapeutic behavioral services (TBS) to support coordination of
healthcare, behavioral health, and non-healthcare services, across settings that meet
client needs.
- Deliver TBS interventions such as consultation with licensed providers, referrals to
services, crisis prevention, evidence-based techniques, and restoration of social and
functional skills.
- Implement PSR activities focused on restoring and supporting daily routines and
functioning, helping clients manage psychiatric or emotional symptoms in home, school, work, and community settings.
- Use a strengths-based, person-centered approach to promote rehabilitation, skill-
building, and improved self-management within the client's natural environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or high school diploma with a minimum of 3 years' experience working with youth and family populations.
- Must be licensed in the state of Ohio.
- Experience with youth, adolescents and young adults with mental health issues and concerns preferred.
- Experience with multi-system youth, adolescents and young adult preferred.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual and/or Sign Language proficiency a plus.
