The Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) mission is to Pioneer, Partner and Predict to drive transformative insights for patient benefit. IPS conducts applied computational research in areas that include genomic, structural and molecular informatics, computational and systems biology, patient selection and translational biomarker research, and broader fields including knowledge science, epidemiology and machine learning-across the full lifecycle of drug discovery and development and across all therapeutic areas at BMS.

Job Description

We seek a creative and passionate computational biologist with a strong background in drug discovery and cancer immunology to join the Oncology team within Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS). In this role, you will lead a team focused on using cutting edge machine learning and advanced statistical methods to analyze high-dimensional patient and pre-clinical data.

In partnering with biologists to build and prosecute a discovery cancer immunology portfolio, you and your team will be responsible for identifying and developing novel pre-clinical cancer immunology therapeutic concepts. In this role, you will collaboratively define and implement the computational strategy focused on cancer immunology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of computational scientists partnering on shared drug discovery objectives.
  • Define and implement computational strategy to identify novel therapeutic concepts.
  • Manage a team working with diverse data modalities, including spatial transcriptomics, single cell RNA-seq, high throughput proteomics, RNA-Seq, multiplex flow cytometry, and clinical data
  • Mentor and guide scientists on your team performing deep and innovative analyses of these data to comprehensively evaluate patient-derived data for the purpose of developing testable therapeutic hypotheses.
  • In close collaboration with teams across Research and Development (including biologists, computational biologists, and clinicians), develop holistic translational data packages for target concept opportunities.
  • Communicate findings and recommend follow-up actions in multiple settings (including 1 : 1, seminars, and team meetings). Participate in authorship of scientific reports and present methods and conclusions to publishable standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of academic / industry experience, or
  • Master's degree with 10+ years of experience, or
  • PhD with 8+ years of experience in computational biology, computational cancer immunology, or a related field
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD from a recognized institution in a quantitative field such as computational biology, computational cancer immunology or related.
  • Experience managing computational scientists to deliver on broad objectives is preferred; experience in matrix management of cross- functional teams is strongly preferred.
  • Experience analyzing and integrating high-dimensional molecular datasets such as multi-omics (e.g., RNA-seq, proteomics), single cell (scRNA-seq), genome-wide genotyping array, or spatial transcriptomics datasets
  • Advanced hands-on knowledge of at least one high-level programming language such as R or Python for computational and reproducible research practices
  • Track record (such as scientific publications) in driving and advancing research projects / programs with computational approaches
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Background in cancer immunology preferred
  • Compensation Overview
