This position is dispatched from the Surveyor's home, is usually only M-F, and has no shift, on-call, direct care, or holiday work.

We are looking for a professional who thrives in a team environment, yet works well independently, to support the Department of Health and Human Service's mission to promote health and safety for all Maine people.

Core Responsibilities :

What can you expect to do as a Survey Team Leader?

  • Lead a team of surveyors as you conduct inspections and investigate complaint allegations in acute-level providers such as hospitals, hospices, ambulatory surgical centers, and others;
  • Interview complainants and witnesses to obtain information regarding complaint allegations;
  • Perform record reviews and observations in facilities;
  • Write reports known as "Statements of Deficiencies," which outline the rules / regulations that the facility failed to follow;
  • Assist your team members to ensure Statements of Deficiencies comply with the requirements set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS");
  • Participate in training, including mandatory online training required by CMS;
  • Ensure that facilities comply with both federal and State licensing requirements

Although you will be a Team Lead :

  • You will not have to do annual performance reviews of your team members, and
  • You will not have to do any other supervisory duties.
  • This position does require statewide travel and occasional overnight stays; in addition, it may be necessary to conduct occasional early morning, night, or weekend survey work.

    Minimum Qualifications :

    Registered Nurse and a four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of nursing and / or in the delivery of health care services.

    Licensing Requirements : (This must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class)

    Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine as issued by the State Board of Nursing.

    Preferred candidates will ALSO have :

  • o Knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements for acute healthcare facilities;
  • o Experience working in acute healthcare settings;
  • o Demonstrated critical thinking skills;
  • o Knowledge of CMS software and CMS's Principles of Documentation;
  • o Ability to build and lead teams;
  • o Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills; and

    o A valid driver's license.
