Our valued client in Oak Ridge, TN, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Payroll Associate to join their team on a contract-to-hire basis. This role provides an exciting opportunity for professional growth and the potential to transition into a hybrid or remote work environment. The Payroll Associate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for up to 800 employees in a multi-state environment. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, the ability to work independently without daily supervision, and a self-starter mindset. The role will also include tasks related to union employees, garnishments, account reconciliation, and payroll system maintenance. Experience with UKG Ready payroll software is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities :

Process bi-weekly payroll for up to 800 employees, including both hourly and salaried workers, across multiple states.

Handle garnishments, union employee payroll requirements, and resolve payroll-related discrepancies.

Prepare payroll deposits and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and deadlines.

Post payroll transactions and reconcile payroll accounts to the general ledger.

Maintain organized payroll documentation and update records accurately.

Work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities effectively.

Possess the flexibility to adapt to a hybrid or remote work arrangement as required.

Required Qualifications :

Demonstrated experience in processing payroll for a large organization (800+ employees).

Solid understanding of multi-state payroll and compliance requirements.

Experience with garnishments and union employee payroll processes.

Strong skills in reconciliations and general ledger posting.

Proficiency in using payroll software (UKG Ready preferred) and familiarity with relevant accounting systems.

Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently without daily supervision.

Self-motivated and driven with a proactive approach to tasks.

Preferred Qualifications :

Previous experience with UKG Ready payroll software.

Knowledge of salary and hourly employee payroll processing.

Work Environment :

This position is located in Oak Ridge, TN, with the opportunity to move into a hybrid or remote work arrangement upon successful transition to a permanent role.

• At least 2 years of experience processing payroll for organizations with 800 or more employees.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
• Hands-on experience managing garnishments and payroll for unionized employees.
• Proficiency in performing reconciliations and posting payroll entries to the general ledger.
• Familiarity with payroll software systems, with UKG Ready experience strongly preferred.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
• Self-motivated and capable of proactively addressing payroll-related challenges.
