Our Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Public Health Toxicologist for our Practice in Austin, TX. In this role you will work as part of a team focusing on projects related to complex human and environmental risk assessments, public health, product stewardship and sustainability, and environmental and consumer product regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate for this position should be open to collaboration on multidisciplinary work while developing and expanding new areas of expertise.
You will be responsible for
- Supporting multidisciplinary project teams on complex, challenging problems
- Providing toxicology support to regulatory and technical staff
- Reviewing, summarizing, and interpreting scientific literature, regulatory standards, guidance documents, and legal case materials
- Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations
- Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications, and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies
- Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Environmental and Earth Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate
You will have the following skills and qualifications
Required:
- . in Environmental Health Sciences, Toxicology, Public Health, or related discipline
- Strong background in Human Health Toxicology and/or Risk Assessment
- Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, and effective with time management, and capable of working independently and cooperatively in diverse teams
- Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Exposure to sensitive information will necessitate considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment
- Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills
- Willingness to learn and develop new areas of expertise
Preferred:
- Interest in obtaining Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT), or related certifications
- Understanding of human health risk from exposure to chemical agents (., metals, PFAS, volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds)
- Understanding of exposure and/or epidemiologic studies
- Not required but would be a plus: Understanding of federal, state, and international laws, rules, and regulations for chemicals of concern in consumer products (., California Proposition 65, PFAS regulations, REACH, or TSCA)
- Some consulting experience a plus
