Physical Therapy Assistant
Under the direction of a NYS licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides and documents physician ordered occupational therapy services. The PTA provides superior customer service by modeling the Unity Brand Promise and Core Values.
Responsibilities :
- Completes and documents patient care activities within PTA scope of practice, including visit notes, verbal / renewal orders, and progress toward goals per agency standards.
- Implements individualized treatment plans, including gait training, use of assistive devices, and safe transfer techniques using proper body mechanics.
- Confers with the supervising Physical Therapist, physicians, and interdisciplinary team regarding patient progress, concerns, and response to therapy.
- Participates in discharge planning by providing timely, thorough patient and family education to support safe transitions of care.
- Coordinates patient scheduling collaboratively with team members and adjusts effectively based on census or patient needs.
- Maintains professional growth through continuing education and communicates clearly with patients and families regarding care plans, progress, and therapy goals.
- Evaluates home environment for changes needed to increase patient's independence. Recommends equipment and assistive devices (ramps, bathroom aides, other adaptive equipment) as appropriate.
- Maintains required agency visit productivity.
Required Qualifications :
Associates Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.Minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience as a PTA in an acute care setting and / or an acute rehabilitation facility.Successful completion of all fieldwork requirements and eligible to sit for PTA or OTA exam.Current NYS PT Assistant licensure required.Preferred Qualifications :
Reads, writes and speaks English.Must demonstrate computer proficiency.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Education : AS : Physical Therapy (Required)
Licenses / Certifications : PTA - Physical Therapist Assistant certification - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
Physical Requirements : Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and / or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
Pay Range : $22.60 - $31.50
