Position Summary

The Program Manager oversees staff and ice usage. This includes but is not limited to rink schedules, in-house programming, skate sharpening and repair, skate rentals, league management and on-ice programming / instructions. This is balanced with a strong customer service ability, team leadership and business acumen.

This role will pay an hourly wage of $18.27-22.12.

About the Venue

The Rink at Coral Ridge is a community ice rink, offering a variety of skating classes and camps, and is additionally the home of the Hawkeye Skating Club, ICH Youth Hockey, University of Iowa Men’s and Women’s Club Hockey teams and the practice facility for the ECHL Iowa Heartlanders. The related facility, Xtream Arena and Greenstate Family Fieldhouse is home to the University of Iowa Women’s Volleyball team and the ECHL Iowa Heartlanders. The venues are owned by the community development corporation ArenaCo and managed by OVG.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the use of the ice with local groups ranging from open state to professional-level hockey.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work.
  • Works closely with hockey and skating associations, scheduling ice usage and making necessary arrangements for the personnel, equipment, and materials to be on hand.
  • Develop the Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs, Try Hockey for Free as well as summer camps and birthday parties and direct their execution.
  • Responsible for promoting and representing the facility in a positive manner at all times.
  • Investigate, analyze and resolve operational problems and complaints.
  • Develop operating procedures that conform to corporate standards, customized to the specific needs of the facility and consistent with the goals and objectives of the client and facility.
  • Maintain records of activities and programs, completing reports and making recommendations for improvement to programming.
  • Create and enforce all ice rental contracts.
  • Participates in management and company staff meetings and attends other meetings representing The Rink.
  • Serves as Manager on Duty up to 50% of operating hours and is responsible for troubleshooting issues outside of regular working hours.
  • Ensures customer inquiries regarding ice rates and availability are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of staff with safety / first aid / CPR / bloodborne pathogens training per facility policy.
  • Oversees cash register and daily deposits, float, and verifies the change safe balance daily.
  • Works with Rink Manager and General Manager on budgeting and capital improvement plans, providing input for programs they oversee.
  • Works with Ice Operations Manager to build and maintain ice which includes using an ice resurfacer and all other equipment necessary to maintain the highest quality sheet of ice.
  • Works with Director of Marketing on website maintenance and social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, X and Instagram.

Qualifications

  • High school or vocational diploma required, BA degree desired, however, work previous work history can substitute for degree
  • Experience with general functions of an ice arena
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, with emphasis in working with and training a “casual” staff
  • Must be able to work flexible and sometimes demanding schedules; including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Possess a working knowledge of audio / video and information technology systems, ice systems, and basic computer skills
  • Possess a working knowledge of ice and ice-making systems
