Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
- United States Citizenship : Non‑citizens may only be appointed when no qualified citizens can be recruited in accordance with VA policy.
- Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Residency training : Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. (Approved residencies include ACGME, AOA, or other U.S. residencies followed by at least five years of verified U.S. practice.)
- Residents currently enrolled in ACGME / AOA accredited residency training programs are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
- PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and are not considered independent practitioners; they will have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

- Physical Requirements : Light lifting, carrying, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (5–10 hrs), standing (5–10 hrs).
- Vision : Near vision correctable to 13–16 inches Jaeger 1–4; far vision correctable to 20 / 20 in one eye and 20 / 40 in the other; depth perception and basic color discrimination.
- Hearing : Hearing sufficient for patient care (hearing aid may be permitted).
- Environmental Factors : Working with hands in water; working closely with others.
Duties
Provides anesthesia‑related direct patient care in all functional areas of the OR, ICU, ward, procedural areas, and clinic settings as needed, including on‑call coverage.Provides anesthesia‑related training to qualified residents, students, and other providers in accordance with supervision policies and procedures.Participates in development and implementation of program philosophy, objectives, plans, policies, and standards essential to delivery of quality anesthetic care.Fosters a high level of patient and staff satisfaction.Establishes and promotes an atmosphere of unity through collaborative practice and effective communication between disciplines throughout the facility.Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions.Consistently communicates and treats customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.Work schedule : Monday – Friday 6 : 00 am – 8 : 00 pm (tour varies as required).Benefits
