Transportation Worker 1 Laborer
The Transportation Worker 1 Laborer will report to the Equipment Shop at the District Headquarters. This position, under general supervision, will be performing entry level work in the construction and maintenance of highways. Will assist maintenance crews with removal of debris and litter from culverts and highways as well as providing traffic control by flagging on job sites. May be responsible for washing equipment brought in for repair as well as cleaning buildings, grounds, and other equipment. Will be operating various equipment such as a fork truck, skid steer, utility tractor, and other equipment to control vegetation and brush, as well as various hand tools for facility repairs. Performs other related duties as required. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Selected applicant will be required, within 6 months of employment to obtain commercial driver's license (CDL). Progress through the apprenticeship program as well as the opportunity for advancement to a higher classification is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as obtaining and maintaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). In the area of assignment of Laborer, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required. However, advancement through the apprenticeship program is limited without a CDL or other required certifications.
Pay Grade 10H Hourly Rate : $15.4913

Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of general safety procedures.
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and other motor driven equipment.
Knowledge of the operation of motor driven equipment.
Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in the repair of motor driven equipment Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repair.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to learn from example and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to maintain routine records (timecards, repair work orders).
Minimum Requirements
REQUIRED TRAINING / EDUCATION No formal education required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE This is the entry level classification in this series. No prior experience is required.
