Powder Coater

Position Summary

The Powder Coater is responsible for preparing coating and curing metal components to achieve high-quality durable finishes that meet Trident Maritime Systems production and defense standards. This role requires hands-on experience with electrostatic spray systems oven curing verification and defect troubleshooting. The Powder Coater will work closely with Production Quality and Planning teams to ensure consistent color finish and adhesion across aluminum and steel components used in naval modular furniture manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities Surface Preparation & Pretreatment

Clean sand mask and rack parts to ensure optimal adhesion and grounding.

Closely monitor maintain and adjust chemical concentrations in multiple wash stations.

Application & Curing

Set up and operate manual or booth-based electrostatic powder coating equipment.

Adjust voltage flow and pattern settings to achieve even coverage and proper film build on complex geometries.

Load and unload ovens; verify metal temperature cure profiles per specification.

Quality & Documentation

Measure and record coating thickness gloss and adhesion results per internal and MIL-spec standards.

Identify and correct finish defects such as orange peel pinholes thin coverage or contamination.

Maintain accurate traveler documentation and ensure powder lot traceability.

Equipment & Material Management

Perform routine maintenance on guns booths and filters.

Track powder usage apply FIFO rotation and prevent expired material use.

Safety & Continuous Improvement

Follow all PPE environmental and safety requirements for powder coating operations.

Participate in 5S and Lean initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

Collaborate with Quality and Management to refine processes and maintain consistent finish standards.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of professional powder coating experience in industrial or architectural metal finishing.

Skilled in electrostatic spray application film build control and cure verification.

Proficient with film-thickness gloss and adhesion testing tools.

Strong troubleshooting skills for grounding coverage and cure issues.

Ability to read travelers finish specs and QA documentation.

Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs stand for extended periods and work in a non-climate-controlled environment.

Compensation & Schedule

Pay range : $22.00 $26.00 per hour based on experience.

Standard shift : 10 : 00 AM 6 : 30 PM Monday Friday.
