Associate Underwriter Healthcare Professional Liability (HPI)

Location : Atlanta, GA | Hybrid (3 office / 2 remote)

Position Summary

The Associate Underwriter supports Tokio Marine HCC's Healthcare Professional Liability (HPI) team by assisting in the underwriting and analysis of new and renewal business. This role is ideal for someone eager to build a long-term career in specialty insurance, with exposure to complex risks and collaboration across underwriting, claims, and actuarial teams.

Under general supervision, the Associate Underwriter will review insurance submissions, analyze risk, prepare quotes and binders, and contribute to the team's operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate insurance applications for new and renewal business.
  • Assist underwriters in determining risk acceptability, coverage terms, and pricing recommendations.
  • Prepare and maintain underwriting documentation, including quotes, binders, and endorsements.
  • Communicate with brokers, agents, and internal teams to clarify information and ensure timely responses.
  • Monitor assigned accounts for renewals, coverage changes, and policy issuance accuracy.
  • Support the team's business development efforts through responsive service and strong broker relationships.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in process efficiency and data accuracy.

Qualifications

Education :

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience :

  • Up to two years of experience in underwriting, underwriting support, or insurance operations preferred.
  • Exposure to professional or healthcare liability insurance is a plus.
  • Skills & Competencies :

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated initiative, dependability, and eagerness to learn.
  • Professional Development :

  • Interest in pursuing professional insurance designations such as RPLU, CPCU, or AU.
  • Additional Information

  • Work Schedule : Hybrid (Atlanta-based, 3 days onsite)
  • Travel : Occasional (up to 10%)
  • FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
