Position description

Position(s) : Lecturer in Classics

Starting Date : September 22, 2025

Salary : Approximately $8,872.12 per course (pending final budget approval) Appointment is eligible for renewal depending on need, funding and performance.

  • Qualifications :

    Minimum requirements are an M.A or higher in Classics or a related field. Priority will be given to candidates with training in Classical Studies and experience and success in teaching Classics at an American university.

    Ph.D. or ABD is a preferred qualification. So too is experience teaching Classical receptions.

    Duties :

    Duties consists in teaching 8 courses in Classics, which may vary slightly from year to year; courses of instruction include lower-division lecture courses, elementary Latin, as well as advanced readings courses in Latin and Greek. Duties also consist in undergraduate student advising, service to the Classics program, and support of UCR undergraduate students and the major in Classical Studies.

    It is the expectation of the Department of Comparative Literature and Languages that all language lecturers adhere to departmental norms for language instruction as well as to curricular and pedagogical norms in the language program (or programs) in which they teach.

    Classics 10b, "Ancient Civilization : Classical Greece"

    Latin 001, "Introduction to Latin"

    Latin 101g, "Virgil"

    Winter :

    Classics 10c, "Ancient Civilization : Rome"

    Latin 002, "Introduction to Latin"

    Greek 101t, "Hellenistic and Later Greek"

    Spring :

    Latin 003, "Introduction to Latin"

    Latin 101o, "Livy"
