Physician / Hospitalist (Nocturnist) / in Leavenworth, KS

The VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System is actively recruiting for a BC / BE Internal Medicine physician to work as a Hospitalist (Nocturnist) at our Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas (only 35 minutes from downtown Kansas City, MO).

VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System is currently seeking a BC / BE Hospitalist (Nocturnist) to cover inpatient wards / PCU / ICU after hours. Will be responsible for taking calls on Medicine patients in-house (Med / Surg floor, PCU, ICU), managing emergencies and writing admission orders and completing required paperwork. Will handle transfers into and out of the facility as needed. Candidate will coordinate hand-off communication after hours and at the start and completion of shifts. Will see Medicine consults after hours as needed. Work hours to be 80 hours per 2 week period. Work volume is 18-24 total Medicine service patients in-house on average including ICU / PCU; 3-4 admissions / night on average. Procedural competency as recognized by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Out-of-OR-Airway-Management are a requirement, but training is available on-site. Current BLS certification is required (ACLS certification will be required within 6 months of hire). Patients whose acuity or complexity exceeds the capacity of the Medical Center are transferred to a tertiary care facility. No on-call responsibilities outside of scheduled duty hours.

LICENSURE : 1 Full and unrestricted license from any US State is permissable to work at this facility

CME : $1,000 per year stipend for reimbursement + 1 week paid authorized absence to attend (subject to budget availability)

Federal Retirement Plan :

VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits; 2) FERS-RAE basic benefits (pension); and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan

How is the pension funded? VA employees hired after January 1, 2014 automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 8.3% of the employees salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 12.7% of the employees salary

Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2014, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $17,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $23,000

The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
