THE ROLE

The Administrative Assistant to the Senior Leadership Team will play a critical role in supporting the leadership, instructional efforts, and operational excellence of OYN. This individual will provide high-level administrative and programmatic support, helping ensure the smooth execution of academic and organizational priorities.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold a teaching license or have prior experience in K-12 education settings, given the role's support for instructional leadership, academic programming, and school operations.

The Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) is a mission-driven, equity-focused nonprofit dedicated to transforming outcomes for opportunity youth-young people ages 16 to 24 who are not in school and not working. With over 100,000 opportunity youth across New Jersey and a significant concentration in Newark, OYN leads bold, collaborative efforts to reimagine education and workforce pathways for young people who have been historically marginalized.

LEAD Charter School, a key initiative of OYN, is New Jersey's first alternative public charter high school for opportunity youth ages 16-21. LEAD offers competency-based academics, career-connected learning, and holistic wraparound support in a student-centered, community-driven environment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in administrative or instructional support roles, preferably in education, nonprofits, or youth-serving organizations
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Zoom, Canva, and other digital tools
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, education reform, and youth development
  • Preferred :

  • Active or previously held teaching license (any state); New Jersey certification preferred
  • Experience working in a school setting, especially in charter or alternative education models
  • Familiarity with school operations, curriculum development, or educational compliance
  • Understanding of culturally responsive education and youth empowerment models

  • PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

    Executive and Academic Program Support

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to members of the senior leadership team, including managing calendars, scheduling appointments, organizing meetings, and preparing meeting materials.
  • Coordinate communications on behalf of leadership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and organize materials, compliance documents, and professional learning resources.
  • Draft, edit, and format memos, reports, presentations, and internal communications.
  • Assist in planning and executing staff meetings, leadership huddles, and professional development sessions, including agenda creation and note-taking.

    Administrative Operations

  • Manage calendars, book appointments, and ensure timely follow-ups on key leadership priorities.
  • Handle general office tasks including document filing, maintaining organized records, making copies, and ordering supplies.
  • Maintain effective internal systems for document storage, access, and communication.
  • Assist with the coordination and logistics of school events, trainings, and external visits.
  • Provide responsive support in day-to-day school operations as needed.
  • School and Program Coordination

  • Monitor and track deliverables related to school improvement plans, academic programming, and compliance requirements.
  • Support data management, reporting, and documentation efforts aligned with charter school expectations.
  • Collaborate with staff and instructional teams to facilitate smooth implementation of curricular and operational initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Communication

  • Support the coordination of public-facing events.
  • Ensure professional, timely communication with all stakeholders, redirecting inquiries appropriately when needed.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Twelve-month employee.

    EVALUATION

    Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.
