The MindSet Program : Leading Lasting Change

MindSet is ECS’s key economic mobility program, offering free, multi-year coaching and training to help participants set and achieve goals in five core areas : Family Stability, Health & Wellness, Employment, Education, and Financial Management. MindSet pairs one-on-one coaching with group workshops, cash incentives, and a matched savings program, supporting participants for up to seven years as they build skills, confidence, and self-sufficiency.

MindSet is more than a program—it’s a partnership. Our coaches walk alongside participants, helping them navigate life’s challenges and celebrate milestones. Last year, MindSet participants increased their average income by 72% in just six months. The Director of Opportunity Development will lead this transformative work, expanding access and impact across Philadelphia.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for the Opportunity Development department and the MindSet program, ensuring alignment with ECS’s Bridge to Prosperity model (adapted from EMPath’s Mobility Mentoring®).
  • Design, implement, and expand innovative program design that address the needs of participants and the community.
  • Lead a team of nine, including two direct reports, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and coaching-centered culture.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, funders, and community organizations to grow program capacity and impact.
  • Oversee program evaluation, data analysis, and continuous improvement to measure and enhance outcomes.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring programs are culturally competent and accessible to historically excluded populations.
  • Secure funding through grant writing, fundraising, and donor engagement.
  • Advance ECS’s advocacy positions and participate in agency-wide strategy and values.

  • Essential Skills & Experience :

  • Demonstrated ability to champion and advance coaching skills and best practices, including completion of ICF-approved coach training certification, EMPath’s Mobility Mentoring Foundations, and ongoing professional development in coaching modalities
  • At least five years of management experience in human services, workforce development, or program management, with a track record of delivering compelling outcomes for diverse communities.
  • Proven ability to raise at least $25,000 in new funds to expand program capacity.
  • Experience working with BIPOC and other historically excluded populations.
  • Strong technology skills (Microsoft Office, CRM / database, project management software).
  • High school diploma or equivalency required; advanced degree preferred .
