Job Description
As a valued contributor to our team, you will consult, advise, and represent Fannie Mae’s Multifamily business in service of our mission to provide stability, liquidity, and affordability in the housing ecosystem. You will provide core legal counsel on complex transactions and projects related to multifamily and corporate initiatives, low‑income housing tax credit (LIHTC) investments, asset management, and regulatory concerns.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate high‑level legal and regulatory analyses and partner with management to identify and address potential reputation issues.
- Collaborate with colleagues, internal clients, and outside counsel on negotiation and drafting of contracts and other documents.
- Provide advice to business clients on important legal and business issues, engaging clients to meet business and regulatory goals and achieve transaction and project closure while providing excellent customer service.
- Use sound business and legal judgment to balance risk aligned with business needs and objectives.
- Supervise and direct outside counsel.
- Collaborate with management and outside counsel on issues of significance for the company.
Minimum Required Experience
8 years of experience.Juris Doctorate.Experience negotiating and closing complex commercial real‑estate finance and investment transactions.Experience representing investors, developers, or syndicators in LIHTC proprietary and multi‑investor funds, including lower‑tier property acquisitions.Ability to work independently with flexibility in a fast‑paced environment.Experience communicating with and influencing clients.Experience building trusted advisor relationships.Desired Experience
In‑house legal department experience, including engaging and monitoring outside counsel, reviewing and supervising billings, and preparing and monitoring legal budgets.Agency finance and other commercial leasing, finance or corporate transaction experience.Expertise in affordable housing and real‑estate issues (e.g., environmental risks).Transactional experience with Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Code, partnership and limited liability company law, and partnership taxation.Skills
Managing project plans, resources, and people to ensure successful project completion.Legal analysis and solution generation, drafting, research, and negotiation.Collaborating with people of diverse functional expertise toward common goals.Gathering accurate information and explaining concepts to aid client decision‑making.Communication skills, including written and oral presentation.Relationship management skills, engaging clients, outside counsel, opposing parties, and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.Ability to adopt new technologies and optimize processes.Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s Level Degree (Required).
Target Salary Range : $196,000 – $264,000 per year.
