Position Summary
The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller and is responsible for overseeing the company's day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements. This position plays a key role in managing the month-end close process, preparing financial statements, and supporting system integrations between QuickBooks and NetSuite. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has strong technical accounting knowledge, communicates well across departments, highly organized, and experienced in managing accounting functions in a fast-paced environment
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Manage accounting system operations in QuickBooks and NetSuite, including data integrity and process improvements.
- Lead or support the transition and integration between QuickBooks and NetSuite.
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff to ensure efficiency and accuracy in daily tasks.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support management decision-making.
- Train and mentor accounting staff, promoting a culture of accuracy and accountability.
- Review sales commission reports in accordance with company policies and sales agreements.
- Review, file, and reconcile sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with state and local tax regulations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management experience.Strong proficiency with QuickBooks and NetSuite (implementation or integration experience required).Experience in waste management, logistics, or service-based environments.Experience managing multi-entity or multi-location accounting operations.In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial tools.Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position operates in an office setting.The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.The work environment is generally quiet to moderate in noise level.Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times (e.g., office files or records).Occasional bending, reaching, or standing as necessary to complete typical office tasks.
