Job description

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller and is responsible for overseeing the company's day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements. This position plays a key role in managing the month-end close process, preparing financial statements, and supporting system integrations between QuickBooks and NetSuite. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has strong technical accounting knowledge, communicates well across departments, highly organized, and experienced in managing accounting functions in a fast-paced environment

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage accounting system operations in QuickBooks and NetSuite, including data integrity and process improvements.
  • Lead or support the transition and integration between QuickBooks and NetSuite.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff to ensure efficiency and accuracy in daily tasks.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support management decision-making.
  • Train and mentor accounting staff, promoting a culture of accuracy and accountability.
  • Review sales commission reports in accordance with company policies and sales agreements.
  • Review, file, and reconcile sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with state and local tax regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks and NetSuite (implementation or integration experience required).
  • Experience in waste management, logistics, or service-based environments.
  • Experience managing multi-entity or multi-location accounting operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial tools.

  • This position operates in an office setting.
  • The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • The work environment is generally quiet to moderate in noise level.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times (e.g., office files or records).
  • Occasional bending, reaching, or standing as necessary to complete typical office tasks.
