Senior Portfolio Accountant (Real Estate)

Sagard Real Estate is based in Denver with regional offices in New York City, Charlotte, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Austin metro areas.
This role is performed onsite and located in Denver, Colorado. Hybrid scheduling is available.
About the Role
This position will report to the Manager, Portfolio Accounting and will assist with the day-to-day responsibilities for the operations of multiple portfolios, which may include separately managed accounts, open-end structures, and closed-end structures as well as the underlying real estate investments in each structure. The Senior Portfolio Accountant will work closely with the Portfolio Accounting team and other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, cash management, and compliance. The role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Key Job Duties
- Perform full-cycle accounting duties for assigned portfolios, including closing the books for portfolio entities and ensuring accuracy of journal entries, reconciliations, and consolidations.
- Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts; research and resolve discrepancies.
- Analyze portfolio revenues, expenses, and cash flows; prepare variance analysis and provide insights to management.
- Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures and ensure timely preparation of financial reporting packages.
- Prepare quarterly fair value financial statements, footnotes, and internal reporting deliverables; assist with investor reporting.
- Prepare portfolio-level transactions (e.g., acquisitions, dispositions, debt activity, joint venture activity) and ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
- Manage capital activity including contributions, distributions, and capital reconciliations.
- Monitor portfolio cash balances, prepare wire payments, and coordinate transfers to ensure liquidity needs are met.
- Assist with audits and tax return preparation by providing supporting documentation and coordinating with external auditors and tax preparers.
- Support the budgeting and reforecasting process, including preparation of supporting schedules and analysis.
- Assist with quarterly performance calculations and ad hoc investor or internal reporting requests.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, finance, investor relations) and third-party service providers to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and support implementation of policies, controls, and documentation enhancements.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders and external investors.
Education and Experience Required
Bachelors degree required; accounting / finance majors and CPA preferredMinimum of 3 years of accounting experience, experience in real estate investment management or fund accounting strongly preferred.Experience with consolidations, financial reporting, and fair value accounting strongly preferred.MRI or equivalent enterprise accounting systems experience required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
