The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Driver License Examiner Assistant in Lancaster County. This vital role within PennDOT involves supporting the Driver License Center by assisting customers at the service counter, thereby enhancing overall highway safety. A key responsibility of this position is the thorough examination of identity documents, which is essential in the fight against identity theft and fraud. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Driver's License Examiner Assistant plays a crucial role at a Driver License Center, where they provide essential driver licensing services to the public. This position involves a range of responsibilities, including professionally greeting customers and engaging directly with them to verify identification, assist in completing application forms, and inputting data into online driver license application software. The assistant also distributes relevant forms and informational brochures tailored to the specific needs of each customer. In addition to these tasks, the assistant administers standardized knowledge tests to assess applicants' understanding of motor vehicle codes, driving laws, and traffic control devices. A vision screening is conducted for all applicants using a telebinocular instrument to ensure visual acuity meets required standards.
Furthermore, the assistant is responsible for entering test results and customer applications into online software systems via a PC terminal. They must independently address inquiries and concerns from the public, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of the services offered and the requirements for each, including the criteria for obtaining REAL ID and non-REAL ID products. The assistant provides guidance on various services, such as driver's license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and commercial driver's licenses (CDLs), while being well-versed in the associated restrictions and endorsements. Upon request, they also generate Restoration Requirements Letters for customers who visit in person.
Additionally, the assistant ensures that the correct fee waiver codes are applied and properly documented whenever a fee waiver is necessary for processing customer transactions, adhering to all Fee Waiver Guidelines. They strictly follow the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy and comply with all REAL ID regulations. Maintaining a clean, organized, and accessible work area is essential, as is the issuance and scanning of documents for non-native born U.S. citizens, ensuring that all procedures are executed with precision and professionalism.
