Position: Facilities Specialist 1

Department: Facilities

Job Summary: Performs general work related to construction, maintenance, and repair of the Gaming Enterprise Division’s (GED) buildings and facilities. This is the first in a series of three (3) classifications. Incumbents are supervised closely and generally do not make independent decisions or judgments.

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):

  • Performs routine maintenance activities under supervision.
  • Performs remodeling jobs including work on interior walls, cabinets, table games, and minor job work orders.
  • Secures work areas until repairs can be made, when necessary.
  • Performs tasks in compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and codes.
  • Works with other team members to complete assigned tasks, as necessary.
  • Operates hand and power tools in a safe, efficient manner to accomplish assigned duties.
  • Performs mathematical calculations and reads blueprints to fulfill duties, when necessary.
  • Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Lifts and carries ladders; pushes and pulls scaffolds to complete job tasks, when required.
  • Responds to team member and guest inquiries and complaints and provides courteous and cordial service.
  • Responds to after-hours emergency calls, as needed.
  • Performs all functions in accordance with departmental and the GED’s policies and procedures.
  • Attends scheduled on- and off-site training for skills advancement.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of equipment, products, techniques and standards used for construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities.
  • Knowledge of standard hand and power tools and equipment used in the trades.
  • Knowledge of chemicals used in the trades
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the trades.
  • Knowledge of all relevant laws, regulations, and codes.
  • Skilled in the care and use of hand tools and equipment necessary to perform tasks.
  • Organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Skill in working courteously with the public as well as developing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to effectively communicate as well as understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members and guests.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform mathematical and geometric computations pertaining to the position.
  • Ability to measure distances with a tape measure or other measuring device.
  • Ability to use graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids as well as interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to make decisions based on information received from team members or guests.
  • Ability to distinguish between the full range of colors in the color spectrum to work with electrical wires.
  • Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and climb ladders to reach work areas as well as push and pull scaffolds when required to complete the job task.
  • Ability to work at heights greater than ten feet.
  • Ability to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift arms above shoulder level to work in ceiling areas or on light fixtures.
  • Ability to work in small, cramped areas such as ceiling crawl spaces, equipment enclosures, closets, etc.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
  • Ability to travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
  • Ability to independently push, pull, and turn a tool cart (maximum weight up to 300 pounds) and wear fitted tool belt (maximum weight up to 20 pounds), with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) long distances (more than 20 feet).
  • Ability to read blueprints as well as interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, and walk 100% of job time.
  • Ability to work in a smoking environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years’ experience in building maintenance, commercial building trade, or facilities/maintenance engineering OR any combination of education and experience approved.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Must be able to independently push, pull, and turn a tool car (maximum weight up to 300 pounds) and wear fitted tool belt (maximum weight up to 20 pounds), with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) long distances (more than 20 feet), with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, responsiveness, and creativity.
  • Demonstrated track record of providing excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, special events, and overtime, as needed.
