What you’ll do :

We are looking for a full-time Trauma Advocate based in our Tempe office for the Trauma Healing Services department. Responsibilities include overseeing and processing all new referrals to ensure that needs are met in a timely manner; providing intake and needs assessments to determine immediate and long-term needs for victims; safety planning and risk assessments; collaborating with victims to develop action plans that meet their needs; providing emotional and informational support to victims; overseeing that all victim services are provided and acting as a liaison between victim and other social service agencies, police agencies, and court personnel; performing personal advocacy services including assisting victims and their families in securing rights and services; participating in outreach events and activities. Overnight on-call component on a limited basis. Bilingual and crisis differentials provided.

Candidate must demonstrate ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, and recognize personal limitations. Candidate must possess the ability to represent agency in professional manner. Candidate should have prior experience, which demonstrates ability to understand the needs of victims and their families, empower victims to make positive choices, and relate positively to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation.

What you’ll provide :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, or behavioral health related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Bilingual - Spanish speaking ability is required.
  • Must have knowledge of effective crisis interventions.
  • Must have comprehensive understanding of the effects of significant trauma and principles of Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Needs effective self-care within a potentially stressful client environment, facilitate public presentations and maintain timely clinical documentation.
  • Must have understanding of community and agency resources with motivation to advocate for client needs.
  • Requires ability to communicate clearly, facilitate public presentations and maintain timely clinical documentation.
  • Familiarity with Maricopa County community resources is preferred.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency through experience with diverse minority populations is preferred.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License, with no major infractions in the past three years is required.
  • Must possess a Fingerprint clearance card or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities :

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, recognize personal limitations, and relate positively and with empathy to all regardless of age, race, creed, gender or sexual orientation.
  • Professional conduct consistent with ethical professional practice and the policies and procedures of the agency.
  • Professional demeanor and positive working relationships with internal / external team members, stakeholders, and community and business partners.
  • If driving while on agency time or on agency business, a valid Arizona driver license and appropriate liability insurance and approval for liability coverage with EMPACT - SPC’s liability insurance carrier is required. At time of hire, a 3-year state driving record with no major infractions or excessive driving violations / tickets is required.
