Position SummaryThe Director of Shipping & Receiving oversees all aspects of inbound and outbound logistics, warehousing, and inventory management to ensure the accurate and timely flow of materials and finished goods. This role is critical to maintaining compliance with food safety regulations, optimizing operational efficiency, and supporting production and customer service goals. The Director leads the logistics team to uphold the highest standards of food safety, product quality, and workplace safety.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesShipping & Receiving Operations
- Manage all daily operations related to shipping, receiving, and warehouse logistics.- Ensure timely shipment of finished goods and receipt of raw materials, packaging, and supplies.- Oversee order accuracy, proper documentation, and labeling in compliance with food industry standards.- Develop and enforce best practices for inventory control, space utilization, and material flow.- Coordinate with production, procurement, and customer service to ensure on-time fulfillment.
Food Safety & Compliance
Maintain compliance with FDA, USDA, FSMA, HACCP, SQF, and GMP requirements.- Partner with Quality Assurance to ensure proper storage, temperature control, and product traceability.- Support and participate in internal and external food safety and logistics audits.Leadership & Team Management
Lead, train, and mentor warehouse, shipping, and receiving supervisors and staff.- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.- Evaluate staff performance, manage scheduling, and ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.- Collaborate with HR to recruit, onboard, and retain high-performing team members.Logistics & Vendor Relations
Develop and maintain partnerships with carriers, freight companies, and logistics providers.- Negotiate freight rates and ensure compliance with transportation contracts.- Monitor carrier performance and resolve delivery or scheduling issues promptly.Continuous Improvement & Reporting
Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize downtime.- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) including on-time delivery, freight costs, and inventory accuracy.- Lead automation and technology initiatives to optimize warehouse and logistics operations.- Maintain and analyze data in ERP and WMS systems to support business decisions.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, or distribution management, preferably in a food manufacturing or refrigerated facility.- Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP, FSMA, and SQF standards.- Proven leadership skills with a track record of improving operations and building strong teams.- Proficiency with ERP / WMS systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.Work Environment & Physical Requirements
