About the role

The Battery Simulation Engineer II contributes to the development and integration of computational models for battery cells and packs within larger powertrain and aircraft systems. This role focuses on performing simulations, analyzing results, and supporting optimization strategies to enhance battery performance, efficiency, and thermal management. Collaborating closely with senior engineers, the engineer participates in characterization tests, ensures proper documentation, and uses simulations to troubleshoot hardware issues. This position provides a foundation for honing skills in modeling and simulation techniques while contributing to key team projects.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Develop computationally efficient electrical models for battery cells and packs, and contribute to their integration into larger powertrain and aircraft models.
  • Perform simulations using electrical, thermal, and lifecycle models to support the specification and development process, ensuring outputs align with project requirements.
  • Analyze simulation results to provide insights that inform battery performance, design, and specification decisions.
  • Participate in characterization tests to collect data for model development and validate the accuracy of existing models.
  • Collaborate in the development of optimization strategies for battery designs, focusing on efficiency, weight, and thermal management.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintain records of design and simulation files.
  • Support applications and testing teams by using simulation to troubleshoot hardware findings and contribute to resolving performance issues.

Qualifications

Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in battery modeling, simulation, or related engineering fields, preferably in aerospace or automotive applications.
  • Proficiency with battery simulation tools such as MATLAB / Simulink, Ansys, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with electrical, thermal, and lifecycle modeling techniques for battery systems, including CFD and lumped parameter models.
  • Hands-on experience with data collection from tests and using it for model validation.
  • Exposure to optimization tools or techniques for improving battery performance.
  • Preferred :

  • Experience with aerospace product lifecycle development processes

  • Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX's location in Everett, Washington.
