WSP is currently in search of a Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering Consultant in our New York City office to develop designs for projects in varying sizes (renovations new buildings) primarily for healthcare, laboratory, and higher education spaces.
Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and optimal integration of plumbing and fire protection systems. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding installation, construction, and operation specifications. Ensures responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Perform professional plumbing engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building infrastructure, and usage.
- Participate in advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems.
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross?functional team of engineers, planners, and professionals to execute project work, assist with installation, calculate costs and quantities, and ensure compliance with specifications, permits, and regulations.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements and calculations, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of small?to?medium sized projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, or address design and construction issues.
- Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on design and construction problems or to plan for future needs.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations, offering input with developing action plans for risk mitigation activities.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Work collaboratively with other engineers, architects, and authorities on federal, state, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision?making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSPs Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.3 to 5 years of relevant post?education experience in plumbing and fire protection engineering design; ideally in healthcare, laboratory, and higher education spaces.Engineer in Training Certification.Knowledge of plumbing and fire protection engineering principles, practices, and design / build processes.Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.Knowledge of relevant plumbing and fire protection systems and codes, regulations, and compliance practices.Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.Effective self?leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and management of multiple priorities.Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.Experience with discipline?specific design software (AutoCAD, Revit).Critical thinking and problem?solving skills to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis, and arriving at effective solutions.Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSPs health, safety and drug / alcohol and harassment policies.Ability to work schedules conducive to project?specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Occasional travel may be required depending on project?specific requirements.Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in Engineering.Essential Professional Licensure / Certification.40?Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.WSP Benefits

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations) : $90,800$145,200.
