Melvin & Melvin, PLLC is seeking an Associate Attorney for Commercial and General Litigation.

Melvin & Melvin, PLLC is a mid-sized firm celebrating over 100 years of representing businesses and individuals in Central New York. We represent clients in a diverse variety of practice areas. Our office is in the heart of downtown Syracuse near the courthouse, and many places of interest within walking distance. We pride ourselves on being able to handle our clients’ complex needs while still maintaining a personal relationship.

Ideal candidates should have `litigation experience with the ability to handle the case from inception to conclusion including:

· Drafting of pleadings

· Drafting of discovery documents and motions

· Familiarity with taking and defending depositions

· Strong legal research and analytical skills

· Familiarity with, and experience in Federal Court preferred

· Excellent written and verbal communication

· Advocacy skills

Responsibilities:

· Research and collaborate with senior attorneys to devise case strategies

· Take and defend depositions

· Manage discovery (including electronic discovery)

· Draft reports, legal memoranda, pleadings, discovery demands/responses, motions, briefs, etc.

· Participate in trial/ADR proceedings

· Represent clients in court

· Manage day-to-day aspects of employment law and personal injury files, under supervision

· Maintain reasonable monthly billable hour requirements

Experience:

· 3+ years of litigation experience

· Juris Doctorate from ABA-accredited law school

· Admission in New York(or ability to waive in) required, additional Admission in Federal preferred

· Experience before NYS courts; federal court experience preferred

· Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms to participate in depositions, court conference, and meetings

· Ability to travel for in person depositions and court conferences, including overnights; as needed

· High level organization skills for prioritizing workload

· Demonstrated ability to absorb, process and understand, new information rapidly

· Maintain high standards of performance

· Must exhibit conscientiousness, dedication, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility

· Experience with online research sites

· Excellent research skills and written and verbal communication skills

· Must be able to manage competing priorities

· Must maintain high standards of performance

· Must have experience with online filing and research sites

Salary range will be commensurate with experience. Actual compensation will depend upon several factors including the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, and skill set. Attorneys are able to earn an origination fees on clients brought to the firm through their own efforts.
