Managing Editor (STM Journal)

The Choice is seeking a contract, part-time Managing Editor for our client- a well-respected professional medical association. This individual will support the publishing division on a peer-reviewed medical journal.

Start Date : October 2025

Duration : Open-ended

Schedule : 25-30 hours / week. There is a weekly call on Tuesdays at 7AM that will be required. Otherwise, the start time can be flexible in the morning.

Location : Remote but must be based in DMV area.

Salary : This is an hourly position, $28 an hour

Qualifications :

• Experience in database management – specifically in programs like Scholar One, Editorial Manager, BenchPress, or eJournalPress.
• Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years experience working with peer review STM journals required
• Experience in the medical field; knowledge of the cardiovascular field a very large plus.
• Ability to work well in a team environment with physicians, executives, contractors, and other staff in a respectful, professional manner.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, with varied deadlines in a fast-paced editorial / publishing environment.
• Proficiency in time management, adhering to strict timelines and prioritizing tasks based on deadlines in a fast-paced editorial / publishing environment.
• Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills, with a strong attention to detail.
• Strong computer skills, with working knowledge of word processing, scheduling, and spreadsheet programs.
• Intermediate knowledge of STM and online publishing.
• Knowledge of data analytics and reporting.
• Some travel may be requested / required.

Job Description :

The Managing Editor position will be responsible for the daily operations of a peer reviewed medical journal. The Managing Editor will work with the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal to oversee the processing of manuscripts, coordinate peer review, and handle correspondence and production issues (e.g., preparing manuscripts for publication).
