Senior Land Use Attorney – Seattle, WA
Direct Counsel is seeking a Senior Land Use Attorney to join a well-established, full-service law firm in Seattle . The firm advises a diverse client base across multiple practice areas, including land use, real estate, construction, business, corporate finance, litigation, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights. The firm’s culture is defined by respect, collegiality, and genuine care that extends to both clients and colleagues.
The incoming attorney will work with an existing portfolio of sophisticated clients and have the opportunity to build upon long-standing relationships with senior partners. A partial book of business is welcome but not required. The ideal candidate thrives on collaboration and has a strong foundation in Pacific Northwest land use law.
Key Responsibilities :
Appear before hearing examiners, planning commissions, city and county councils, administrative hearing boards, and courts.
Draft and / or oversee the drafting of briefs, due diligence memos, and client advice memos.
Handle land use due diligence and permitting, assess redevelopment opportunities, and set strategy to achieve client goals throughout the permitting process.
Communicate strategically with local government planners, department directors, and elected officials.
Draft new code provisions and guide them through the amendment process at cities and counties.
Supervise junior attorneys, legal assistants, and potentially paralegals.
Qualifications :
JD from an accredited law school and active membership with the Washington State Bar Association.
At least 8 years of experience practicing land use law in the Pacific Northwest.
Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills.
Proven ability to develop and manage client relationships.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently when needed.
Compensation & Benefits :
Base salary range : $175,000 – $250,000+ , depending on experience and book of business.
